If managed responsibly, paper bags can be a sustainable alternative to plastic, which is largely un-biodegradable. Raw materials used to make paper bags can be derived from eco-friendly sources, like renewable plants. Studies show it takes four times more effort to make a paper bag than a plastic bag; perhaps more distressing is the fact that it takes 1,000 years for a plastic bag to decompose in a landfill.
A more sustainable option to plastic bags are those made from recycled PET, rather than recycled plastic bottles. Even though it takes longer to produce these bags, they are stronger and heavier, which results in a longer lifespan.
Raw materials are used in the creation of bio-packaging, which makes it biodegradable. The materials used to make this form of packaging include wood, starch, cellulose, soy, lactic acid, and other plant matter. This kind of packaging can be put into soil after use in order to grow new plants. This start-to-finish recycle, reuse, re-grow process is known as circularity.
This type of packaging is used by retailers and consumers. The goal is to reduce waste, and that can be achieved by using this reusable and returnable packaging. Reusable packaging comes in three different sizes and is supposed to last up to 20 cycles. After using the packaging, you can return it by bringing it to your local post office. Some companies even offer rewards if you return your used packaging.
Cassava bags are the replacement of plastic packaging. They are biodegradable and compostable. All ingredients used in the making are natural including 100% bio-based, cassava starch, vegetable oil, and organic resins.
